HopSurf and its qualities
Weeks ago...okay a year ago, Comodo had an idea to put out a product that would change the way users browse the Internet, called HopSurf. HopSurf, in my opinion, is a good competitor to others like StumbleUpon, YouLicit, SnipSnap, Streakr, Yoono, Digg, Reddit, delicious, etc.HopSurf is better planned than other toolbars as it has integrated a social engineered search engine, Ask.com. Why is Ask.com better than other engineered engines? Except for OneRiot, Ask has a better understanding of engineered results based on social networks. Check this row of result out, on different engines, and see the difference in results and who is better engineered: (Searched "jay on twitter")
Ask: http://www.ask.com/web?qsrc=167&o=0&l=dir&q=jay+on+twitter << Excellent results
Google: http://www.google.com/search?q=jay+on+twitter << Okay results
Yahoo: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=jay+on+twitter << Not very good results
Bing: http://www.bing.com/search?q=jay+on+twitter << Great results
Bing vs Google: http://www.bing-vs-google.com/?q=jay+on+twitter << Good comparison
OneRiot: http://www.oneriot.com/search?q=jay+on+twitter&format=html << Could be better, but okay
Why is that search phrase a good phrase? If you are looking for someone specific, and you do not know the exact url of their Twitter page, Facebook page, MySpace page, etc - then searching their username and the name of the network will get you a good amount of results grouped together, by category, narrowed down, on Ask.com. Those other search engines I listed are grouping things by category, but broadening the potential results. If the search engine had a smart engine built in, it would know what the will of the user is to search...for social sites or sites with news about social sites, etc.
Using a socially engineered engine, it has the ability to protect users from crap results, and able to give user what they want.
Now, I will say a few things that I do not support with toolbars that are made by Ask.com. Luckily HopSurf is not an Ask.com toolbar in any way. Ask.com toolbars are known to distribute adware and are frowned upon by security communities. However, some toolbars that anchor their search component to Ask.com are simply under partnership. As long as the toolbar is not based off of the main Ask toolbar code, it has no way of being bad. In fact, the toolbar makers that make non-Ask toolbars, but still partner with them in search, simply attach the anchor like this: http://www.ask.com/web?q=[user's search term]&o=[PARTNERid]
That is it. Just an anchor.
I highly recommend HopSurf, because it allows you to:
A. Rate sites 'like' or 'dislike'
B. Attach sticky notes to pages, so your friends will know about your likes or dislikes or comments about the page.
C. Find similar interests between you and your friends.
D. Also includes Comodo SafeSurf.
E. Press the button to explore new sites and get a chance to see new, great content. Also, to tell your friends about it.
F. Even more than what I could list here.
