Change Desktop Background



Overview

This guide will teach you how to change your Desktop Background in either Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Process

Windows XP

1. Click on the Start Button
2. Click Control Panel, which is located on the right side of the Start menu.
3. Make sure you are in Catagory View (if not select it from the left hand side)
4. Click on Appearence and Themes
5. Click on Change the Desktop Background
6. Select the wallpaper you want from the ones that appear
Note: To choose an image of your own, click Browse and navigate to the image.
7. Click to select how you want your image to appear on the screen. Choose from the following:

  • Center - Place the image in the center of the screen.
  • Tile - Have the image display as tiles across and down the screen.
  • Stretch - Stretch the image so the image covers the entire screen.
8. Click Ok to apply the changes.


Windows Vista

1. Click the Start button.
2. Click Control Panel, which is located on the right side of the Start menu.
3. Click Change the Desktop Background. It is listed under Appearance and Personalization.
4. Select the wallpaper you want from the ones that appear or click the down-arrow in the picture location field to select another wallpaper category.
Note: To choose an image of your own, click Browse and navigate to the image.
5. Click to select how you want your image to appear on the screen. Choose from the following:

  • Center - Place the image in the center of the screen.
  • Tile - Have the image display as tiles across and down the screen.
  • Stretch - Stretch the image so the image covers the entire screen.
6. Click Ok to apply the changes.


Windows 7

1. Right click on a empty space on the desktop and click on Personalize
2. Click on the Desktop Background link at the bottom of the window.
3. Click on the drop down arrow menu to select from the list of available picture folder locations, or click on the Browse button to navigate to the picture folder location.
4. Right click on an available picture, or click (check) on the box in the upper left corner of the picture, to select it.
5. Click on the drop down arrow menu, and click on the picture position you want for the desktop background.
6. Click on OK to apply the changes.
