Hello, I am new to this forum, although I did receive help with a slow computer (my mom-in-law's) in the last couple days.

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion DV7t (a few days before Christmas). I noticed when I received it that the right button on the touchpad was loose. By loose, I mean that it works fine, but if you touch it lightly, it's obviously loose. The left button does not move when you do the same to it. Any advice ? I don't usually worry about these kinds of details, but I don't want it to break because I let it go, either. Thanks !!!

It is mostly a defect in touchpads. It would be a good idea to call HP support, and ask if the unit can be serviced.

Otherwise, it should not become too big of an issue. I always recommend, that if people are good with a mouse, to buy one for a laptop, because of how easy it is.

As it's a new unit i would contact either HP or the shop you bought it from. One of them will be able to put in for repair as it's still under warrenty and because of this i wouldn't recommed fiddling with it yourself just yet Smile

You can contact HP various ways via http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/wwcontact_us.html

Sorry about that. I thought I posted a reply......

I called the "Warehouse" concierge service where I purchased it (not sure if I'm allowed to post the name of the place, but it begins with a "C" ! ) They got me in touch with HP. HP sent me the box to send it back to them in, and I should have my computer back (and fixed) in several days. After Fedex told me that it would be "dropped" onto the belt, I'm a little weary on whether it will be undamaged by the time I get it back !

Thanks for the advice.

Glad to hear HP are taking responsibility.
I'm sure Fedex will take care of it, any problems such as damage whilst in their hands then they'll will have to cover the cost of any repairs.

Fingers crossed you get it back soon and thanks for updating us Smile

Thanks for the advice. I've learned a lot the last couple months. Unfortunately, I've learned because of computer problems ! I'm hoping to get my desktop back to "normal" soon, while waiting for my laptop to come back.

Thanks again....

Most of us started because of problems at the start. I had a malware infection and decided after i got help i wanted to make sure i didnt have the same issues again.

Just to update this - I received the laptop back. It's going back ! Besides this touchpad button issue, I started having a CHKDSK problem with it several days ago (I posted about it in another topic.). Long story short, they had me wipe out my hard drive and reinstall (or recover?) it. Took me half the day to do everything. Anyway, started having the problem again today. HP wanted me to send it in for repair, telling me that the hard drive is bad. It's practically brand new ! Anyway, to top that off, the touchpad button did not get fixed. They sent me a repair sheet with my "fixed" laptop stating that they replaced the top case. Not sure why they did that......

It seems they are not giving adequate support. While we cannot do anything here, nor come close to giving complete instructions, I would recommend to take a full support request with HP and do not let them go until they fully understand the situation.

If you sent it in for a repair for that reason, then they should definitely have fixed it. Let them know that is not fixed, and they did not do as promised.

My apologies. I should have been more specific when I said "It's going back!" . I meant that I am returning it to Costco. The part that has me scratching my head is that I wrote out specifically what the problem was....right button, touch pad, loose, loosens when tapped lightly, and they still didn't get it ! Well, after they told me the hard drive is bad, I did not want to spend anymore time on it. So, I'm on my way to Costco. I think I've invested enough time on the "new" computer trying to fix it. Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it !
