Throw a towel over your dog’s head and use a stopwatch to time how long it takes the dog to free itself. An average may be 15 to 30 seconds.

Place three paper cups upside down on the floor, three feet apart. Show your dog that you are placing some beef or something under one cup. Turn the dog in a circle three times or lead it into another room for about 20 seconds and then see if the dog can find the right cup, the first time.

Take your dog outside and in to the lawn on a long leash and walk along a fence several feet from the gate which you will leave open. Throw a piece of beef or something over the fence, and see if the dog figures out to go back around and in to the gate to get the treat.
