I installed Ubuntu a few moments ago, but found I can't get online. How do I go about setting this up?

Yes. We have router that goes directly into the modem which is high speed internet by going through our cable. Someone recommended on the Ubuntu forum to use ethernet. But we live in an older house and the line is falling out of the wall. I really don't want to chance that.Tongue

Go in to the Applications, and search for NDISWRAPPER.

ndiswrapper is a tool in Linux that allows Linux to use a Windows driver for the network card, because of the Linux driver being unsupported for the network card.

See if your card is listed on supported cards on the ndiswrapper site: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/ndiswrapper/index.php?mediawiki/index.php/List

===============

Follow instructions here, steps 1-4: https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/internet/C/connect-to-internet.html#wireless-ndiswrapper

And here: https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/internet/C/connect-to-internet.html#internet-basic-procedure

============

Let me know how it goes.

I'm back. I did a little searching around by running from usb . Found in the menu for the Ubuntu Netbook Edition there is a icon that said drivers or something. It listed

Broadcom b43 Wireless Driver

Broadcom STA Wireless Driver

I tried installing them, but both failed. May have been no internet connection or running from usb.

I just followed the guide you posted. Worked well. Unfortunately, I moved the driver which didn't get installed with the .inf file. Ahhhh Will install again... Should work though. Thumb up

I once used my driver install disc, and withdrew the INF from there. Then, ndisgtk finally figured it out, and installed it.

Run this Terminal command:

sudo lsmod | grep ipw2200

ipw2200 is an example driver. Instead of that, input the name of the driver you have installed (without extension).

After the command is run, you should see some information displayed. This will mean the driver is loaded properly. If no lines are displayed, it means the driver is not loaded correctly.
