I recently bought myself an Acer Aspire One. Within the timespan of about 2 weeks, I had downloaded a lot of things, such as music and games. Unfortunately, most of the websites I download from are breeding grounds for all sorts of viruses. Now my computer barely runs. Simple tasks like start up used to take less than 15 seconds. It takes about 2 minutes now. I cannot run any games, as any program I try to run lags like crazy. I fixed a virus myself where my computer would infinitely keep restarting, but it seems the problem is much bigger than that. I desperately need help. Can my computer still be saved? Oh, and I don't want to format the entire hard drive, as my Acer doesn't have a disc drive, so i would not be able to put my OS back on. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks Smile

Hi. Good to see you here.

We are going to be working with a few tools to attempt to find and remove the "viruses" plaguing the machine.

It is usually a quick process, but make sure to read every detail here and ask any questions you may be confused about. Chances of destroying a machine are easy, but with my steady help, it shall be clean of malware.

We're going to start with TDSSKiller, which is a tool to remove the TDSS Rootkit, a major "virus" that seems to be one of the causes based on what you have explained.

Please download TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool
  • Click the Start Scan button
  • After the scan has finished, click the Close button
  • Click the Report button and copy/paste the contents of it into your next reply
Note:It will also create a log in the C:\ directory.

Ok. Good. smile

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from Download.CNET.com

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. If you are prompted to restart, please allow it to restart your computer. Failure to do this, will cause the infection to still be active on the computer.
  • Please save the log to a location you will remember.
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • The log can also be found at C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.

Download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.
  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe.
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.
