i have an hp with vista. i ended up with a virus a lot like the system tool 2011 however when i tried to restart to ctrl alt delete it, the pc would not start up right and it gets to the point where its just a black screen when starting up and just stays there, also im getting a problem that my monitor keeps going to sleep and im not sure if thats becuase the pc is not doing anything. i cant seem to get the pc to start up in safe mode since i cant see anything. any ideas? or best way to handle this?

Did your screen get funny or flash lately, before it would not show the picture?

if i shut the pc down and unplug everything and let it sit for a day, i can turn it on and get the start up menu to come up (black screen with script running) but as soon as it gets to the part where the pc boots or goes into windows vista the screen goes black and it stays like that.

if i hold the power button till it shuts off and try turning it back on i get nothing but a black screen and my monitor wont come on

if i can get past the screen issue, whats the best way to restore my pc? (im going to have a friend bring over his monitor and see if that helps) usally i get the options to hit either esc for the log menu, F10 for help and F11 for restore.whats the best steps to take to fix it?

Try to switch monitors.
