From Trend Micro to Mandiant, Neustar, Spamhaus and the University of Alabama at Birmingham's computer forensics research group -- many organizations contributed to the FBI's official investigation and seizure of the botnet.
DNS Changer's characteristics included changing Domain Name Server (DNS) settings and locking its malicious code in to Windows/Mac files, it maintained its botnet of over 4 million machines worldwide for many years.
Rove Digital was known for providing much of the opportunity of malware installation and its child companies Esthost, Estdomains, Cernel, and UkrTelegroup were known for helping to maintain the botnets. Many of the child companies were best known for maintaining DNS servers and distributing malware.
Many security professionals agree that this is the biggest botnet takedown, and sure is a relief to get yet another botnet removed from the scene, especially after Rustock was taken down recently.
