Identity theft scandals, scams, hoaxes, etc. are a threat. Be aware of the following tips, and you shall be at peace shopping safely!!
- 1. Make sure you are on a secure transaction:
-When your are on the Checkout page of the site you are shopping, make sure to use SSL. How do you know it is a secure transaction?
Look for the following in the address bar of your specific browser:
https://
shttp://
For Firefox:

For Internet Explorer:

For Opera:

For Chrome:

If you don't see these traits, don't check out!
2. Buy from common stores:
Visit familiar online stores. Don't shop a store that is unknown to most people. Stick with one that has a known good reputation.
For example:
Amazon.com
Shopping.Google.com
Shopping.com
Buy.com
There are many other great online stores, so go with only the good known ones!
(Full list in the next post in this thread.)
3. Email deals:
Unless you 100% know the email came from a verified good, known source, do not click any links!
Email scams are extremely common, especially in the holiday shopping season.
