A device driver is a utility/program that controls a certain attached device to the system. This control is naturally done by the GUI, or graphic user interface, the interface which the user operates the computer.
Windows naturally comes with hardware support, generic drivers, etc. However, occasionally, it may install these generic drivers and they may be used, but the actual OEM drivers for that device are probably better to use in most cases.
In this effect, it is best to consider updating each of your drivers (checking and allowing install when necessary).

- To do the easy method for updating drivers, right-click on My Computer or Computer, and select Manage. In Vista and 7, you may be required to enter in an Admin password.
- On the left in Computer Management, select Device Manager. Now, for each device listed, or the one you are searching for, find it and right-click on its name. Select Update Driver and follow the prompts to have Windows Update automatically search for it.
- If an update is found, it will be installed, and a system restart will probably be required.
