This is a post originally written by wng over at Spyware-Free.

We're all sick and tired of the crapware that's taking over the internet. Let's do something about this. I am going to link this article to every victim I help clean. I invite others to do the same. For all the time I put into helping you victims out, I think you can at least spend the 20 minutes that it will take to read the article and follow the suggestions.

Regardless of how you got infected, please call your own ISP, and tell the customer support people that you want your ISP to:

 • Quickly shut down any sites on their network that host malware
 • Block key ports that spread bots, such as port 25, 139, and 445
 • Prevent spoofed packets by verifying the ip address of the packet
 • Scan emails for viruses
 • Put a honeyypot inside their network to see which of their customers are infected
 • Tell them you want to have your complaint filed away in writing.
 • Then, call your city board member, state congressman, senator or someone in politics. Explain to them your frustration, and ask that they create effective legislation

If you were infected by malware programs, find out which programs by your helper, and then please choose one of the following sites, and file a complaint:

Infected by a program and live in the US, or if not other options apply
My identity and or financial accounts were threatened by a program
Transactions involving a foreign (non US) company
Complain about British ISP's
File a complaint in the UK

If you were infected by a website, and know which one, please follow the steps below:
Submit it to the hosts file to be added by posting here. You will need to register first.
Go to this whois lookup page. Put in the name of the website that got you infected and then hit ok. Look for the places to file abuse complaints. The webhosts may or may not respond, but if you scroll down and look under the NETWORK WHOIS, you should find open ears.
If you keep getting ignored, let me know, and I'll see what I can do about it.
If you are having problems doing this, or just don't want to, at least email me the address of the place that infected you. I won't divulge your name or make fun of you. I promise.

If you got infected via MSN or any other IM client, you can try contacting these people and ask them to make the client more secure, doing things such as not allowing masked URL's.

MSN
AOL
Yahoo

If you were infected via P2P, not alot can be done. The best method is to not use P2P at all!

Thank you for your time! Let's shut those sites down.
