Delete those "hard-to-delete" or "undeletable" files without software.
Overview
This guide will teach you how to delete a bad or hard-to-delete file using command prompt, and task manager.
Process
- Open Command Prompt. Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt or in Vista/7, click Start > search CMD, right click on Command Prompt in the results pane and click Run as Administrator.
- Click Start > Run. Type TASKMGR.exe and click OK. For Vista/7, click Start > search TASKMGR and click on taskmgr.exe in the results pane.
- Go to the processes tab and right click on Explorer.exe and click End Process.
- Then, in Command Prompt, change to the directory of where the problem file is. For example, if you need to change to c:\windows, you would type in: cd c:\windows
- Place in the following phrase: DEL < filename >
Where < filename > is the file that needs deleted in that directory. For example, DEL fredereck.exe - Go back to the task manager and click File > New Task. Then enter in the box explorer.exe and click OK.
