The VideoLAN project has the released the first version of the
Goldeneye branch of VLC: 1.0.0. This major release introduces many new
features, new formats and new codecs to the VLC multimedia framework
and fixes a very high number of bugs that were present in the 0.9.x or
0.8.6 versions.


VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It doesn’t need any external codec or program to work.
