How to Enable Direct Memory Access on all drives
Guide Overview
The purpose of this guide is to teach you how to Enable DMA on all drives.
Instructions
- Navigate to your control panel. You can do this by either the Start Menu-->Control Panel or Click on the link listed in My Computer.
- Double click your system icon, to bring up the system properties menu. If you do not see this in XP or Vista, please click the link 'Classic...' on the left.
- While in the system properties, please click the Hardware tab. Then click the Device Manager button.
- Now click on the plus sign [+] next to the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to expand that section.
- Then double click on the Primary IDE Channel to display the Primary IDE Properties window. Then click on the Advanced Settings Tab at the top of the screen. Now for Device 0, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is set to DMA if available. Then for Device 1, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is also set to DMA if available. Then, please click OK.
- Then double click on the Secondary IDE Channel to display the Secondary IDE Properties window. Then click on the Advanced Settings Tab at the top of the screen. Now for Device 0, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is set to DMA if available. Then for Device 1, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is also set to DMA if available. Then, please click OK.
- You may now exit all windows, and please Restart Windows.
