2003R2 :Access denied error while adding a new task in scheduler

Post by vintops on Thu May 07, 2009 10:08 am

While adding a new task in windows scheduler, on Windows2003R2, i got the below error.

The new task could not be created. The specific error is: 0x80070005: Access is denied. Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application.

Can anybody help?

Hi,

Try the following,

Add the "Access this computer from the network" permission to the user account that will run the scheduled task.

Click Start, Run and type Gpedit.msc to bring up the Group Policy editor. In the Local Computer Policy list, expand Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies.

Click on "User Rights Assignment" and double click "Access this computer from the network" and then click Add User or Group. Add the the user name or the group name in the Enter the object names to select area.

Click Check Names to verify what you selected and click OK twice to exit.

Thanks for the reply. But it didn't work, sorry. I'm logged in as administrator while adding the task.
Any other suggestions?

Have a look at this KB Article from Microsoft.
When you create a scheduled task by using Task Scheduler on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer after you install security update 841873, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following: 0x80070005: Access is denied

Request the Hotfix from here.

The security bulletin says that the below products won't be affected.Non-Affected Software:
Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-Bit Edition
Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003
Microsoft Windows NT® Workstation 4.0 Service Pack 6a
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 6a
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 6
Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)

Can the hotfix for XP, be applied on the server OS. Pls note its a customer's server and not mine. Wink

Sorry i forgot you where running Windows2003.

No, the hotfix above is for XP only so please don't apply it to the machine.

I will have a little look further into this as i do believe it is a bit of a common problem.

I'll get back to you shortly Smile

Do you have a password set on the account that your using?

Are you fully up to date with windows updates?

This is definitely a tricky one this, I have seen the following in my research, maybe worth a try.
1. On the domain controller, click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
2. Expand DomainName, click Builtin, right-click Users, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Members tab, and then add the Authenticated Users group to the Members list.
4. Click OK.

If not, what is the task that your trying to schedule and what version of Windows2003 are you running? (e.g. Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86))

The version is Windows Server 2003 R2 x86 Standard Edition with SP2 and its uptodate.

Yes. I'm using the administrator login with a password.

This is indeed a tricky issue and it's got everythin to do with user rights on the DC, coz. I'm not able to drag and drop/copy anything in C:\Windows\Tasks folder inspite of logging in as administrator.

I'll sure give it a try and let u know .

Thanks again, mate! Very Happy

I also have this problem, the suggestion that was made was the standard setup for my server, so it made no difference.
